Inspect Your Boat
First, make sure to carefully inspect your boat inside and out. Watch out for signs of water damage, and check the hoses and fuel lines for cracks. Examine all the wiring before you turn on the electrical system, and repair or replace any damaged components.
Check the Battery
Check the charge level of your boat battery, and refill it with fresh distilled water as needed. If your battery is not holding a charge, it may be time for a new battery! Keep in mind that boat batteries usually last about four to five years, on average.
Check the Fluid Levels
Check all fluid levels in your boat, including the oil, coolant, and fuel. If you added a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank prior to storage, your fuel should be in good condition. If not, you will need to drain the tank and refill it with fresh fuel.
Take Inventory
Last but not least, take inventory of all your safety gear and equipment. Make sure you have a working fire extinguisher, plenty of flotation devices, and a well-stocked first aid kit. You should also check the expiration dates on your signal flares, and replace them as needed.
